Julie Patton

Housing Situation:

Julie Patton rents a one bedroom and one den apartment in Bridgeland that she shares with a roommate. Since her lease began in 2021 to present (2024), her rent has increased by 24 per cent. Her landlord recently listed her unit for sale so she and her roommate have had to manage showings with the realtor while patiently waiting for the sale of the unit to learn what date they will be evicted, should eviction take place before their lease expires in July.

Julie is a fourth-year journalism and digital media student at Mount Royal University. Raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, she began reporting in high school at her local news and radio station, West Central Online. With a desire to build on her journalistic skills, she began the Journalism program at MRU in 2020. Since then, she has contributed and edited on the Calgary Journal, worked as an associate producer for the Canadian Mountain Podcast, interned at the Calgary Citizen, and worked as the news editor of The Reflector. Graduating in the spring of 2024, Julie has only just begun her journalism career.
